Sessions
From Canvas to Movement: Lessons of Democratizing Voice Through Art
Nov-3rd 12:00 pm
Art has long been a potent form of political action, deployed to change mindsets and instill the promise of possibility into disenfranchised communities. For Artist Hank Willis Thomas, this action comes in the form of co-founding For Freedoms, an organization that leverages artists and cultural activations to promote discourse on civic issues and decency. As Director of the Baltimore Contemporary Art Museum, Chris Bedford's method of action comes in the form of redefining inclusion for artists of color within traditional institutions. Hank and Chris will discuss what creating in today's world means for artists of color – and how the spaces and places where their creations live have political and cultural consequences.
